Why selection of SQL query line is important for managing SQL databases?

SQL Queries are in-built command lines of the MS SQL Server that allow the Database administrator to restore or manage SQL Server databases or MDF files. SQL queries are also known as Transact-SQL statements, each transact-SQL statement is designed for specific purpose. Because of the simplicity of the Structured Query Language (SQL), a single task related to the SQL table can be performed with several SQL queries. It is quite imperative that you pick the right SQL script for adding, modifying or recovering a SQL table. You can add Transact- SQL Scripts from either SQL Server Management Studio or Studio Express.

Suppose you have added a database myname_23.MDF on a SQL Server that has following records:

Serial

Product Name

Price (In Rs.)

1

Sony Xperia

12,000

2

Nokia 1290

18, 000

3

Sony Zoom

12,000

If you enter following SQL script in SSMS or SSMSE:

  • SELECT [Serial], [Product Name], [Price (In Rs.] FROM [myname_23.MDF]. [dbo].[Users] WHERE [Price (In Rs.)] = “12,000”
  • This command will extract two records as shown below:

    Serial

    Product Name

    Price (In Rs.)

    1

    Sony Xperia

    12,000

    3

    Sony Zoom

    12,000

If you want to retrieve only a single database record that contains “Sony Xperia”, then enter following script:

  • SELECT [Serial], [Product Name], [Price (In Rs.] FROM [myname_23.MDF]. [dbo].[Users] WHERE [Product Name] = “Sony Xperia”
  • SQL administrator can use different Transact-SQL statements such as CREATE, DELETE, UPDATE, MERGE and SELECT to manipulate or restore database records. Managing several databases on a large SQL server is quite difficult and therefore, administrator needs to choose specific SQL script to delete, move or shrink unnecessary SQL database records. Performance of SQL database depends on both SQL Server and MS Windows. If MDF tables become very large or you have entered wrong SQL script, then it will certainly affect the performance of the SQL Server or may even result corruption of SQL tables. Therefore, the best way of managing SQL Server is third party sql storage management software. Lepide SQL Storage Manager is a highly sophisticated tool that can help you maintain the stability on the SQL Server.

This MS SQL Server Management software effectively shrink large MDF tables on the server as well as local disk. It also allows automatic defragmentation of SQL databases and generates alerts on periodic basis. Acting as suitable MS SQL Server Management software, it helps the administrator in managing multiple SQL servers on a network. It also forecast future disk space requirement for the SQL Server databases and allow organizations to enhance the storage capacity of both the servers i.e., SQL server and Windows Server.

MS SQL Server management software also moves or copy unnecessary files to other location and free server space for other tasks. It also partition large MDF tables with a simple wizard. MS SQL Server Management software generate dashboard reports to show the SQL storage status such as used and available space on the system disk. In a nutshell, it boosts the performance of SQL Server objects such as MDF tables, file groups and Transaction logs.
